One of the mottos that we follow in selecting the amazing products we share with you is “From around the corner and around the world.” We are thrilled to announce that around the corner from us our sister company, The Cornucopia Café, is crafting a dining experience with the same philosophy in mind.

When you’ve come to visit us in the last few months, you may have noticed the construction activity directly across from Penn Alps as The Cornucopia Café takes shape. The building is now clad in 135-year old wood salvaged from a barn in nearby Springs, PA that has also been incorporated into interior elements like the bar tops and fireplace mantle. Building has really picked up over there and the café will open their doors in just a few weeks!

The Cornucopia Café will serve contemporary farmhouse fare from breakfast through brunch, lunch, and dinner in small plates and large dishes with mindfully sourced ingredients. So, for any time of day you’ll have yet another reason to stop through Grantsville (as if we weren’t enough!). We’re looking forward to being able to grab an ice coffee on our way in to the shop, for example. They’ll feature Rise Up Coffee from Easton, Maryland which we will be stocking in Grant’s very soon. The Café will open daily at 7am, so it’s perfect for a quick pick-me-up since they’ll also have baked goods and pastries along with breakfast paninis to grab and go.

But we can’t think of a better way to spend a late summer afternoon than by picking up a couple of gourmet sandwiches like the Pimento Cheese Wichey or Raspberry Swiss Panini at the Café, stopping in to Grant’s for a bottle of wine and a pair of Govino glasses tucked inside a picnic basket with one of our blanket totes, then spreading out a picnic lunch along the banks of the Casselman River with someone special.

Into the evening, sharing a Sea Salt Caramel Brownie or Strawberry Parfait over a glass of wine out on the expansive deck overlooking the river may be just the thing, too. Really, any time sounds good to us – you could even stay all day while working from your laptop at the ‘tech bar’ or visiting with neighbors at the large community table built by Fiddlehead Woodworking out of Markleysburg, Pennsylvania.

A number of products currently on the shelves at Grant’s have been incorporated into menu items there. One of our favorite producers is Beekman 1802 and The Cornucopia Café has followed suit by using their Mortgage Lifter heirloom tomato Bourbon Barbecue Sauce on a pulled chicken sandwich with melted cheddar cheese and crispy tobacco onions. If you haven’t already bought a pint of the sauce here we’re certain you’ll want to after you sample that savory dish.

Along with other Beekman 1802 delectables, we sell the Mortgage Lifter sauce in its Tomato Sauce and Bruschetta versions so you have plenty of ways to get inspired. Other Grant’s Mercantile products that you’ll find incorporated into the Café menu include Miller’s Mustards and Eat This Bacon Marmalade, both made in Pennsylvania.
